NI: Top judge to give seminar on GDPR implementation tomorrow

Lord Justice Stephens

One of Northern Ireland’s top judges will give a rare level of judicial insight into the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) at a seminar hosted by Carson McDowell tomorrow.

Lord Justice Stephens, an expert in data protection, will speak ahead of a workshop exploring high risk processing and data protection impact assessments.

It is the latest in a series of five seminars hosted by Belfast-based Carson McDowell to help local businesses prepare for the GDPR, which represents the biggest-ever change in data protection history.

Lord Justice Stephens, who has also held high-ranking positions in the Bar of Northern Ireland, was appointed as a High Court judge in 2007 and as a Senior Lord Justice of Appeal in September 2017.

Olivia O’Kane, partner at Carson McDowell, said: “We are delighted to confirm that Sir Stephens has confirmed that he is available to open our session on 15 February 2018.

“This is a unique opportunity for businesses to benefit from an insight, from one of Northern Ireland’s most senior members of the judiciary, into views from the Bench in regard to data protection generally.”
