Trainee solicitor raises over £9,000 in Kilimanjaro hike
A trainee solicitor with Belfast firm O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors has raised more than £9,000 for the Down’s Syndrome Association after climbing Africa’s tallest mountain.
Conor Cleverley, 23, travelled to Tanzania in early July to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the only charity in Northern Ireland, England and Wales which helps people with Down’s syndrome live full and rewarding lives.
He successfully reached the summit on 13 July after hiking over 45 miles and tackling altitude sickness. At 5,895 metres above sea level, Uhuru Peak is the highest geographical point in the continent of Africa.
Mr Cleverley said: “I found the experience to be difficult but I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the journey. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. To date I have raised over £9,300. A staggering amount for a small local charity, whose impact is felt by many.
“Down’s Syndrome Association is the only charity in Northern Ireland that helps people with Down’s syndrome live full and rewarding lives by championing their rights and campaigning for continuous improvement of resources available. The money raised will be greatly appreciated by many.”
His fundraising total currently stands at £9,392 and he continues to welcome donations via JustGiving.
