Tríona Jacob named as Catherine McGuinness Fellow 2019/2020
Barrister Tríona Jacob has been named by the Children’s Rights Alliance (CRA) as its Catherine McGuinness Fellow for 2019/2020.
The one-year Fellowship programme was established by the CRA in 2015 in partnership with The Bar of Ireland and with the support of the Family Lawyers’ Association of Ireland.
It allows for newly-qualified barristers to work as part of the CRA’s legal and policy team on law and policy reform for children in the area of children’s rights and child law.
Ms Jacob is a practising barrister working in the areas of childcare and asylum and immigration law. She has experience acting for parents in childcare proceedings as well as representing applicants for international protection.
Prior to commencing practice, she graduated from NUI Galway with a BCL (International) degree, having spent a year studying at Georg-August Universität in Göttingen. She also obtained a postgraduate LLB from NUIG and an LLM from Leiden University.
She has previously worked as an immigration case worker for a law firm, as a case processing panel member at the International Protection Office, and as a policy and administrative assistance at the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL).
