NI: Ulster University students in historic mooting triumph over QUB

Law students at Ulster University bested their opponents from Queen’s University Belfast to win the Northern Ireland knock-out round of the ESU-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition.
Ben Lowry and Cerys Kennedy led their university to its first victory over QUB in the competition “for more years than we can remember”, a spokesperson for Ulster University School of Law said.
The competition took place at QUB on Friday and was judged by Michael Humphries QC.
Founded in 1972 as the Observer Moot, the mooting competition, organised by the English-Speaking Union (ESU) and sponsored by Essex Court Chambers, is the largest and oldest of its kind in the UK.
The competition involves knock-out rounds held throughout the academic year and hosted by competing universities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The semi-finals and final are held in London in June. In addition to other prizes awarded, the winning team receives the prestigious Silver Mace.
