Views sought on white collar crime strategy
A public consultation on the development of strategies to combat economic crime and corruption has been launched by the Department of Justice.
The online consultation will help to inform the Advisory Council against Economic Crime and Corruption (ACECC) which was established last year under the leadership of former DPP James Hamilton.
Justice minister Helen McEntee said: “Corruption and economic crime can have a hugely negative impact on our society and have the potential to harm Ireland’s reputation as a global hub for financial services and business.
“They can also be enormously distressing for the unfortunate victims of these crimes and we must ensure that we have the tools, policies and strategies to tackle and vigorously pursue criminals in this area.
“While significant progress has been made with measures to enhance Ireland’s ability to prevent and respond effectively to economic crime and regulatory crime in recent years, much remains to be done.”
The consultation will run until 27 October 2023.
