Vigil to mark 35th anniversary of Pat Finucane killing
A vigil marking the 35th anniversary of the killing of human rights lawyer Pat Finucane is set to take place this Sunday.
The gathering at Fortwilliam Drive/Antrim Road this Sunday 11 February at 7pm has been organised by campaign group Relatives for Justice.
Mr Finucane was murdered in his home in north Belfast on 12 February 1989 by loyalist paramilitaries in collusion with UK security forces.
In February 2019, the UK Supreme Court ruled that the state had failed to deliver an Article 2-compliant investigation into Mr Finucane’s death. A subsequent decision not to order a public inquiry was quashed by Northern Ireland’s High Court in December 2022 and a number of related legal proceedings are ongoing.
