Volkswagen faces two major lawsuits in German courts
Volkswagen is facing two new major lawsuits in Germany over the 2015 emissions scandal, according to German media reports.
This week, US law firm Hausfeld is set to file a claim for €250 million on behalf of around 15,000 Volkswagen car owners, Sunday tabloid Bild am Sonntag reports.
As class action lawsuits are not possible in Germany, the case is being taken on behalf of a German legal claims company to which the car owners have reportedly transferred their claims.
Meanwhile, a separate claim worth millions is to be made by the US Department of Justice on behalf of pension funds seeking to recover some of the value lost when Volkswagen’s share price collapsed.
A Volkswagen spokesperson insisted there is “no reason” for litigation.
