Webinar to reflect on policing of COVID-19
Lawyers, policing experts and community representatives will reflect on the policing of COVID-19 in Ireland in an online webinar tomorrow afternoon.
The free event, moderated by Dr Vicky Conway, associate professor at DCU School of Law, will consider the “exceptional positives being achieved” by An Garda Síochána as well as concerns raised by lawyers and rights groups.
Criminal defence solicitor Shalom Binchy, whose firm recently conducted a survey which found that solicitors are being forced to break public health guidelines in order to advise clients in Garda custody, is one of six speakers set to contribute to the event.
The other speakers are Caitriona Gleeson, programme and communications manager at Safe Ireland; Seán Moynihan, CEO of Alone; Dr Sindy Joyce, an Irish Traveller human rights activist; Martin Collins, co-director of Pavee Point; and Bob Collins, chair of the Policing Authority.
The seminar will take place tomorrow at 3pm with registration via Eventbrite.
