White-collar crime lawyers in high demand in London
Tougher UK regulations on bribery, tax evasion and corruption have put white-collar crime lawyers in high demand at top London law firms.
According to FT, white-collar specialists in the public sector are being offered ten times their existing salary, while top lawyers in the field can earn as much as $4 million at US-based firms.
Nick Paleocrassas, legal search consultant at Major, Lindsey & Africa, told FT: “Every firm would love to have more white-collar capability. If has a motivated partner who is keen to jump ship, there will be 20 or 30 lining up to talk to them.”
The rise in demand for white-collar crime lawyers has been linked to the Criminal Finances Act 2017 and the Bribery Act 2010 before that.
Ben Morgan, who joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from the Serious Fraud Office last September, said charges were now so serious that firms would not gamble on “second-tier advice”.
