The Labour Court is a quasi-judicial statutory tribunal, and its functions can be divided between those relating to industrial relations matters and those relating to the determination of appeals in matters of employment rights.
The Chair’s primary role is to lead the Labour Court into the future bearing in mind the importance of maintaining credibility as an Industrial Relations institution while delivering on the imperative of robust decision making in employment law matters. The Chair is responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the Court and the allocation of resources and duties.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive knowledge of industrial relations in Ireland and experience in the resolution or management of significant industrial disputes;
- Extensive knowledge of employment legislation and experience of applying employment law in practice;
- Good knowledge of the work, practice and procedures of the Court;
- A proven record of achievement as a leader and senior manager in a complex organisation in either the public or private sector;
- A good understanding of the general principles of European law and good knowledge of European social policy Directives;
