It is with deep regret that the Law Society of Northern Ireland has notified its members of the passing of Gerry Lee on 17 January.

Former Bar Council chairman Patrick MacEntee SC has passed away at the age of 89. The criminal lawyer was best known for his defence work in the Special Criminal Court in the 1970s and 1980s, including in the Sallins train robbery case.

Barrister Donal Keane BL has passed away following a short illness. Mr Keane called to the Bar in 1992 and practised on the Midland and Northern circuits, latterly as the State prosecutor in Co Leitrim.

Retired Belfast solicitor Ronnie Robinson has passed away. Mr Robinson qualified as a solicitor in Northern Ireland in 1975 and was head of the litigation department at Johns Elliot prior to his retirement at the end of 2023.

Barrister Kenneth Fogarty SC passed away late last year after a brief illness. Mr Fogarty called to the Bar in 1988 and to the Inner Bar in 2001, practising mainly in the criminal courts in Dublin.

Mason Hayes & Curran has paid tribute to solicitor Mikey Lee, who passed away last week. Mr Lee, a member of the firm's medical law team, passed away on Friday 22 November and his funeral took place in Skerries yesterday.

Retired High Court judge Mr Justice Robert Eagar has passed away. A graduate of University College Dublin, he qualified as a solicitor in 1978 and joined Garrett Sheehan and Partners in 1984.

Barrister and ex-journalist Peter Hamilton has passed away at the age of 31. Mr Hamilton unexpectedly died on Monday, according to The Irish Times, where he worked for three-and-a-half years as a business journalist.

Retired Northern Ireland solicitor Patrick Donnelly has passed away. Mr Donnelly was admitted to the roll in 1965 after qualifying in Edwards & Co Solicitors. He was one of the founding members of Donnelly & Wall in 1967 before retiring from practice in 2002.

Former Transparency Legal Advice Centre (TLAC) managing solicitor Judy Dobbin, née O'Loan, has passed away. Mrs Dobbin died on Friday at Blackrock Hospice, Dublin and is survived by her husband Henry and children Malachy, James and Oliver.

Retired Belfast solicitor Neil Faris has passed away. Mr Faris, who qualified in 1977, was formerly a principal with Cleaver Fulton Rankin before setting up as sole practitioner of Neil Faris Solicitors.

James Douglas, executive director of Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI) has passed away. The Bar of Ireland stated: "James' work with IRLI, and in particular the projects across the African Continent, and before that South East Asia, was hugely regarded and impactful.

A young woman who was killed in a road traffic collision in Cork has been named as recent law graduate Kate Wibbe. Ms Wibbe was a campus ambassador for William Fry during her studies at University College Cork School of Law.

Retired Supreme Court judge Mr Justice Hugh Geoghegan has passed away at the age of 86. He died yesterday and is survived by his wife, retired Supreme Court judge Mrs Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan, and three children, The Irish Times reports.
