Professor Robert Elgie, lecturer in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University (DCU), has passed away at the age of 54. The university announced his passing on Twitter yesterday evening.

Writer and barrister Noel Whelan, a prominent figure in the campaign for marriage equality, has passed away at the age of 50. Mr Whelan called to the Bar in 1998 and to the Inner Bar in 2018, practising in Dublin, Wexford and Waterford.

Sir Anthony Hart, the retired High Court judge who chaired the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry, has passed away. His 2017 report on abuse at 22 residential homes for children between 1922–95 recommended a redress scheme for abuse survivors, which has still yet to be implemented.

Northern Ireland solicitor William Rogers, a former senior partner in Carson McDowell, has passed away. Mr Rogers was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 1960 and once played a leading role in what is now Northern Ireland's largest independent law firm.

Northern Ireland solicitor Olivia McKeown has passed away, the Law Society of Northern Ireland has said. Ms McKeown was admitted to the roll of solicitors in September 1979 and passed away in late March.

Arthur Cox partner Paul Robinson passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on the weekend, the firm has announced. The M&A lawyer, who was based in Dublin but originally from Co Donegal, joined the firm as a trainee more than two decades ago.

Prominent barrister Michael Lavery QC, who represented the families of many Bloody Sunday victims at the Saville Inquiry, has passed away at the age of 84. Mr Lavery, who called to the Bar in 1956 and took silk in 1971, retired in 2017 after a six-decade career.

Galway solicitor Bruce St John Blake, a past president of the Law Society of Ireland, has passed away. The retired lawyer was a founder in the 1960s of Bruce St John Blake & Co. Solicitors, which continues to practice in Galway today.

Belfast solicitor Adam Curry, a former partner at Mills Selig, has passed away. A graduate of Queen's University Belfast (QUB), Mr Curry was admitted as a solicitor in Northern Ireland in 1990.

John Stalker, the police officer who led a landmark investigation into "shoot-to-kill" allegations in Northern Ireland, has passed away at the age of 79. As Deputy Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Mr Stalker headed in the 1984 Stalker Inquiry into the shootings of suspected IRA members

Solicitor Moya Quinlan, the first woman to be elected president of the Law Society of Ireland, has passed away at the age of 99. Ms Quinlan, who qualified as a solicitor in 1946 and served as president in 1980/81, died at a Dublin nursing home yesterday, The Irish Times reports.

The Irish Times has published an obituary for construction lawyer Max Abrahamson, who passed away last October at the age of 85. Mr Abrahamson, who was born in Dublin and qualified as a solicitor in 1955, authored a leading textbook on engineering law, consulted on projects in more than 60 countries

Belfast solicitor Norman Nesbitt, formerly of Nesbitt Solicitors, has passed away. Mr Nesbitt has practised as a solicitor for over six decades after opening his firm, first known as J Norman Nesbitt, in east Belfast in 1954.

Tributes have been paid to the late barrister Garrett Cooney SC after he passed away at the age of 84, The Irish Times reports. Mr Cooney, originally from Co Longford, called to the Bar in 1960 and called to the Inner Bar in 1977.

Armagh solicitor Ian Dawson, principal partner at Ian Dawson & Co Solicitors, has passed away. The Law Society of Northern Ireland has extended its condolences to his family, friend and colleagues.
