Prisoners from Maghaberry are supporting a blind schoolgirl with her classroom studies by producing her school books in Braille. Eight-year-old Eryn Kirkpatrick was born with the rare condition Septo-optic dysplasia which has left her completely blind and also affects her growth.

Republicans in Maghaberry Prison have launched a legal challenge for access to the prison library. Prisoners on the Roe House wing of the facility are currently not allowed to visit the library or withdraw books.
The Northern Ireland Prison Service has changed its policy on which books can be taken into jails. A review was ordered by the Director General Ronnie Armour after it emerged that inmates at Maghaberry Prison could not access a book on dissident republicanism.
