Dáil expected to overwhelmingly reject removal of Mr Justice Woulfe
The Dáil is expected to reject a motion proposing the removal of Mr Justice Séamus Woulfe from the Supreme Court bench by a large margin.
A removal motion submitted by socialist TDs Paul Murphy and Bríd Smith is due to be debated this week, but both government and opposition parties have indicated they will not support it.
A spokesperson for Sinn Féin, the largest party in the Dáil, said it does not “see any credible basis for impeachment”, RTÉ reports.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed last week that the government would not support the removal of Mr Justice Woulfe because it “believes the constitutional protection of the judiciary is best achieved in this particular case by taking no further steps in this matter”.
